Expert Reading Monday (12/23/24)

This week we are turning our attention to a study from Columbia University on the effect of Marijuana on the Teenage Brain. The Study is called Recreational Cannabis Use by Teens liked to Risk of Depression, Suicidiality.

The study’s lead author, Ryan Sultan, MD, notes that “ Perceptions exist among youth, parents, and educators that casual cannabis use is benign,” but “We were surprised to see that cannabis use had such strong associations to adverse mental health and life outcomes for teens who did not meet the criteria for having a substance use condition."
